Adhesive for Spoilers & Fender Flaers – SikaFlex® 552 with Sika® Aktivator-205

Sikaflex®-552 is a high-quality, flexible, gap-filling, one-component silane-terminated polymer (STP). It is designed for bonding a variety of materials and, in many cases, offers good adhesion with limited surface preparation.

Sikaflex®-552 is suitable for joints that will be subjected to dynamic stress. Suitable substrate materials include metals, especially aluminum (including anodized components), steel sheets (including phosphated, chromed, and galvanized components), ceramics, and plastics. Advice from the manufacturer and testing on original substrates should be sought before using Sikaflex®-552 on materials prone to stress cracking.

Sika® Aktivator-205 is a solvent-based colourless clear adhesion promoter, which reacts with moisture and deposits active groups on the substrate. These groups act as a link between substrates and primers or sealants / adhesives. Sika® Aktivator-205 is designed for the treatment of bond faces prior to application of Sikaflex® and Sikasil® adhesives and sealants.

Sika® Aktivator-205 is used to improve adhesion on non-porous substrates such as metals, plastics, ceramic screen prints and painted surfaces. Seek manufacturer’s advice and perform tests on original substrates before using Sika® Aktivator-205 on materials prone to stress cracking. This product is suitable for experienced professional users only. Tests with actual substrates and conditions have to be performed to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.

Instructions for Use

Surface preparation with Sika® Aktivator-205:

• Wipe the prepared surfaces with a clean paper towel lightly moistened (not wet) with Sika® Aktivator-205. Do not dip the towel into the activator – pour a small amount onto the paper instead.
• Wipe the surface using only the clean side of the towel. Do not moisten the same paper towel twice – replace it with a new one.
• Apply the activator sparingly – excess may reduce adhesion.
• Allow the surface to flash off for 10–20 minutes.
• The ideal surface and ambient temperature is 15–25°C.
• Do not repeat the activation process unless the prepared surface is not bonded within the maximum evaporation time (2 hours).

Applying Sikaflex®-552 adhesive:

• The adhesive can be applied at temperatures between 5°C and 40°C; the optimal surface and ambient temperature is 15–25°C. If the adhesive was stored in a cool place, bring it to room temperature before use to make application easier.
• To ensure an even bond thickness, it is recommended to apply the adhesive in the form of a triangular bead.
• Manual, pneumatic, or electric caulking guns can be used for application.
• Always join the parts within 30 minutes. After this time, a skin may begin to form on the adhesive.
• After bonding, leave the parts undisturbed until the adhesive is fully cured.
